Morning talk: An unlikely entrepreneur: From never dreaming of entrepreneurship to transforming recycling of textiles

March 20 2024

08.15-09.15

THE KITCHEN

📌 📌 ABOUT THE EVENT

How do you go from being an engineer student to inventing a process to recycle mixed fabrics – which potentially can have an impact on one of the world’s most pollutive industries? Find out on the 20th of March when co-founder of Textile Change Ditte Højland joins us for a Morning Talk in the Kitchen.

Ditte Højland never dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur. When two classmates approached her about an idea and wanted her onboard, she thought they were crazy.

Fast forward to six months later they were reading patents from the 1960s and had a developed a chemical process showing promising results. And a dream was forming; they wanted to invent a way to recycle fibers from mixed fabrics of cotton and polyester. This was the beginning of Textile Change. Today Ditte Højland and her co-founders’ team have grown into 8 and they have a pilot plant which works. The plan is to build a full-scale plant in 2025 which can recycle 10.000 tons of fabric waste into fibers which can be used again.

✅✅  THE TALK WILL FOCUS ON:

  • How to go from not considering entrepreneurship to owning it 200%
  • Too much hard work, stress and finding balance.
  • The importance of a diverse team with different skills

📎📎 ABOUT TEXTILE CHANGE

The textile industry accounts for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, from the 92 million tons of textile waste produced every year. Nonetheless, 87% of material used to make clothing ends up in landfill – one truck every second. This is where Textile Change comes in. The startup specializes in transforming discarded cotton, polyester, and polycotton textiles into a sustainable resource. Their innovative process separates and preserves cellulose and polyester, creating high-quality textile fibers from waste.
